Deburring the Leading Edge Skin
I deburred the holes in the leading edge skin today. I’m going to borrow a c-frame dimpler this week to dimple the skin for the rivets. I also applied some zinc chromate primer to the main spar deburred holes. Next I need to work on the ribs.
Deburring the Main Spar
This morning I deburred all of the holes through the top and bottom of the main spar. I used a 1/4 inch drill bit for this. In a few places I couldn’t get the drill bit in so I used some 400 grit sand paper. I also used the sand paper to make a couple of passes over the holes after deburring. Next, I deburred all of the rib spacers and then moved on to the leading edge skin. I opened up the remaining holes in the skin to #33. I also removed the remaining protective covering along the rivet holes on the bottom outside of the skin. I trimmed the bottom edge of the skin to the correct length and also deburred the edge.
Prepping Wing For Riveting
I finished prepping the rear spar and proceeded to deburr the holes in the main spar caps.
Right Wing Prep
I started this morning by continuing to dismantle the right wing so that I can start the final deburring process before riveting. After dismantling the right wing I used my soldering iron to cut through the protective coating along the rivet lines, then I removed the coating on the bottom skin along the rivet lines. Next, I’m going to cutout the access hole using a series of small drilled holes. After drilling the perimeter of the access hole, I used my tin snips to complete the access hole cutout and then grabbed my half round file and filed away all of the sharp edges. I deburred all of the holes on the bottom skin out side and also worked at sanding the edges. Tonight I finished deburring the edges an running scotchbrite over the holes to remove any final burrs. Next time I’ll remove the protective coating from the inside of the skin and finish the deburring.
